Stewart Elementary School will be hosting a ribbon cutting this weekend for the new Early Childhood Center and the Cornelia Day Childcare Center.
This is the first full school year for the facilities to be open for students and staff. The Washington Chamber of Commerce will hold the ribbon cutting at 4 p.m. Sunday, followed by an open house for the public to see the facilities from 4-6 p.m. The Early Childhood Center includes six new classrooms, the Washington pre-school, and the 3,700 square foot childcare center. The daycare facility can serve up to 70 children and is open year round. The project was funded in part by a $2.3 million general obligation bond approved by voters in 2015, and a $925,000 gift from the Women of Washington Iowa Endowment.
