Domestic Violence Educational Symposium

Title: Domestic Violence Educational Symposium
Description: Washington County Domestic Violence Coalition, Domestic Violence Intervention Program and Washington County Riverboat Foundation are sponsoring the Domestic Violence Educational Symposium on Friday October 27 at the Washington Public Library. There will be a keynote presentation from Vicki Crompton, as well as breakout sessions, and a panel discussion. RSVP by Monday October 23 for a free lunch.

Title: Clover Cooking Club Registration Due
Description: Washington County Extension and 4-H is starting a new youth cooking club, the Clover Cookers. This club is open to any 4-12 grader in Washington County who has an interest in cooking, food safety and healthy living. Registrations are accepted on a first come, first serve basis until October 15 at the extension office. There is a $30 fee to cover cooking supplies and ingredients. Other adult volunteers may be needed.

Description: Louisa County Historical Society is presenting Civil War Saturday on October 7 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. This event will feature the Southeast Iowa Civil War Roundtable setting up camp at 10 a.m., quilts on display, shooting demonstrations, and a free-will offering lunch at 11 a.m. Programs start at 12:30 p.m. in the stage room.

Description: Washington United Presbyterian Church Crew is hosting a Diner Drive-In on Sunday October 1 at 5 p.m. Crew will be serving fresh off the grill hamburgers and hot dogs straight to your car with a smile. Cost is $5 per meal and $20 per family max. Proceeds help to support Crew activities and missions.

National 4-H Week Coloring Contest

Title: National 4-H Week Coloring Contest
Description: Any kindergartener through 3rd grader can join the fun of National 4-H week October 1-7 by putting their artistic skills to use. Washington County 4-H is hosting a 4-H coloring contest. Coloring sheets are available at the extension office or on their website. The sheets are due to the extension office by October 6 at 4:30 p.m. Winners will be awarded in each grade level and will receive a free day camp registration to a 2018 Extension Clover University summer day camp.

Description: Washington County 4-H’s are reminded 4-H record books need to be turned into 4-H club leaders soon. Leaders will evaluate and nominate all record book award winners to the extension office by October 1. All members are eligible to apply for the CBI Bank and Trust 4-H Participation awards and intermediates and seniors are eligible for up to three project awards. Award applications are also due to the extension office by October 1.

Description: Washington Middle School parent teacher conferences will be held on Thursday September 28 from 3:45-7:15 p.m. in the gym. Midterm grades will be available and parents are encouraged to take the time to visit with their student’s teachers. There will be a brief parent meeting for current 7th and 8th grade students who are interested in the June 2018 Washington, D.C. trip at 6:15 in room 107. Memorial visitation for 60-year-old Margaret “Tootie” White of Keota will be held from 4-7p.m. Wednesday September 27th, 2017 at the Powell Funeral Home in Keota. There will be no service. A memorial fund has been established for Chiari malformation research.
