Raiders Roll Through Golden Hawks

The No. 1 ranked Williamsburg Raider football team scored a 49-13 win over the Mid-Prairie Golden Hawks Friday at Dwight G. Sattler Field in Wellman.

In a game heard on KCII, Williamsburg scored touchdowns on their first two possessions. Gage Blythe got the Raiders on the board with a quarterback sneak, finishing a seven play 80 yard drive. Williamsburg doubled its lead on a 77 yard touchdown run from Gage Hazen-Fabor to make it 14-0. After the Mid-Prairie defense forced back to back punts, Hazen-Fabor scored on a 73 yard touchdown run and then hauled in a 45 yard scoring pass from Blythe to give the Raiders a 28-0 lead going to the half.
Mid-Prairie came out of the break with their best drive of the night, marching 70 yards on 15 plays with Karson Gingerich plunging in from one yard out on a quarterback sneak to pull Mid-Prairie within 28-6. Williamsburg answered with a Mathyan Powell two yard touchdown run then made it 42-6, enacting the continuous clock on a Blythe connection with Ben Subbert for a 17 yard touchdown. Mid-Prairie found pay dirt again when Justin Schwartz picked off Blythe, returning it to the three yard line and then crossing the goal line on the next play to make it 42-13. The Raiders finished the scoring with Jordan Martin 25 yard touchdown run with under a minute to play. After the game, Mid-Prairie head coach Pete Cavanagh talked about his team’s night.
The Raiders outgained the Golden Hawks 455 to 207 including 325 to 124 on the ground. Hazen-Fabor finished with 300 yards of offense and three touchdowns. Schwartz led Mid-Prairie with 20 carries for 88 yards and a touchdown. With the win, Williamsburg is now 6-0 on the year. With the loss, Mid-Prairie falls to 2-4 on the year.
