Families who have owned a farm in Iowa for more than a century were recently celebrated.

Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Bill Northey recognized 354 Century Farms and 119 Heritage Farms at the state fair. To qualify, a family must have owned at least 40 acres for at least 100 years to be a Century Farm and 150 years or more to be a Heritage Farm. For Century Farms Washington County had Charles and Jerolyn Corpman, Mary Schantz, Dale and Barbara Thompson, and Tim and Karen Trotman. There were two Washington County Heritage Farms recognized – Mary Chmelar and Donald James Marie.
