Iowa’s corn crop is about eight days behind last year and three days behind average. Soybeans are also three days behind average and about five days behind last year according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture. In southeast Iowa, 90% of corn is in the dough stage, slightly behind the statewide rate of 94%. Locally, 95% of soybeans are setting pods and 18% are coloring, on par with the state rate.

Across Iowa there were scattered reports of disease issues in soybeans, including sudden death syndrome. Soybeans are rated at 10% excellent, 51% good, 26% fair, and 13% poor to very poor. Corn is rated at nine percent excellent, 53% good, 26% fair, and 12% poor to very poor.
