The Solon Spartans showed why they are ranked number one in class 3A by stifling the Demon attack en route to a 40-0 win.

Both offenses marched right down the field in their opening drives but stalled deep in enemy territory. The Spartans got on the board late in the first quarter on a 51-yard scamper by Adam Bock to take a 6-0 lead after a missed extra point. After moving the ball on their first drive the Demon offense struggled to find a rhythm against the highly touted Spartan offense. Desperate to find a spark, Washington tried a fake punt at their own 20 but it was botched giving Solon a short field where they scored on the next play. The Spartans added to their lead late in the second quarter on a five-yard touchdown pass from Cam Miller to AJ Coons and then another rushing score from Bock. The Spartans led 26-0 at the break and held the Demons to negative yards rushing in the first half. The Demon offense showed some life with a 50 yard pitch and catch from Luke Turner to Jaivonn Willis to take it to the Spartan 30. That drive immediately stalled however, as the Spartans forced a fumble. That was one of three second half turnovers that plagued Washington’s chances at a comeback. Solon added a couple touchdowns late to secure the 40-0 shutout.

Willis finished the night with 105 yards from scrimmage to lead the Demons. Solon’s Miller was 17 of 25 passing for 155 yards and three scores. Coons was targeted eight times for 69 yards and one touchdown.

With the win the Spartans improve to 4-0 as Washington falls to 3-1. The Demons look to rebound Friday welcoming Fairfield (1-3) for homecoming.
