The Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission is a step closer to deciding whether or not to grant a casino license to Cedar Rapids.

The IRGC visited three possible sites for a new casino in Cedar Rapids Tuesday. The commission also heard public input on a potential casino during the afternoon. Two groups have presented proposals for a new casino: Cedar Rapids Development Group and Wild Rose Casino. The IRGC will have another meeting October 12 to discuss the proposals, and at their November 16 meeting will make their decision. The Washington County Riverboat Foundation has voiced concern on how a Cedar Rapids casino could have detrimental effects on Washington County. The Foundation anticipates 250 jobs could be lost at the Riverside Casino & Golf Resort, the largest employer in Washington County. Those wanting to speak out against a Cedar Rapids casino should contact the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission Office.
