On the road with adversity in a different environment the Mid-Prairie football team was able to rally Friday night to knock off the Camanche Indians 27-8 at Ashford University Field home of the Clinton Lumber Kings minor league baseball team.

In game heard on KCII, it was the Indians who created the first chance, forcing a fumble that they recovered at their own 39. Camanche would score nine plays later when Baylor Crigger hooked up with Blake Harbison on a 24 yard touchdown pass on fourth and goal, making the score 8-0 after the two point conversion. Mid-Prairie had the immediate answer marching 90 yards on nine plays with Keaton Duwa doing the heavy lifting. Duwa touched the ball on every play of the drive and finished it with a two yard touchdown run, following a missed two point try the Hawks trailed 8-6. That’s where the score would stay the rest of the first half as the defenses settled in and the offenses struggled to overcome penalties.

Out of the halftime break, Mid-Prairie forced a Camanche punt and took their first lead of the night when Brad Tornow connected with Terrhyn Jacoby on a 50 yard touchdown pass to make the score 13-8. The scoring strike was the first of Tornow’s career. As the Mid-Prairie defense turned up the pressure on Crigger in the pocket the Indians didn’t have an answer. The Golden Hawks finished with five second half sacks and a Tom Butters interception. Mid-Prairie scored two insurance touchdowns late to put the game out of reach with Keaton Duwa diving in from two yards out and Grant Boyse scoring his first points of the year on a quarterback keeper.

Duwa led the Mid-Prairie ground attack with 32 carries for 219 yards and a pair of scores. Through the air Brad Tornow was 10 of 15 for 209 yards and a touchdown. Jason Tew finished with seven tackles and a pair of sacks. Camanche was led by Crigger who went 15 of 32 for 169 yards a touchdown and an interception. With the win, Mid-Prairie is now 2-3 on the year, Camanche falls to 0-5. The Hawks will next be in action Friday when they host No. 1 Williamsburg.
