Washington’s Main Street and 2nd Avenue intersection is no longer facilitated by a stoplight.

At Tuesday’s Washington City Council meeting it was approved to change the lights to make it a two-way stop. City Administrator Brent Hinson explained the change was considered because the library and YMCA daycare are no longer operated near that intersection, thus decreasing the traffic and number of children in the area. Currently those traveling east and west have a stop with red flashing lights on the stop light, while those going north and south have a flashing yellow yield light. The change will be in effect for at least 30 days while the council reviews the implementation of the two-way stop. If it goes well, the city will consider removing the stoplights at the intersection.
