Thousands of dollars of damage was caused by a man unconscious at the wheel of his vehicle in Wayland.

According to the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, Tanner Pace was driving westbound on Highway 78 into Wayland Wednesday evening when he became unconscious. He then drove through the backyards of residents on East Railroad Street, and struck a utility shed, causing $6,000 of replacement costs. He then continued west through backyards striking a block fire pit, and came to a rest after hitting a garage. Estimated replacement costs of the garage is $15,000. Pace passed a field sobriety test, and was transported to Washington County Hospital for minor injuries. It is unclear what caused Pace to become unconscious. Marijuana residue and an air duster can was located in Pace’s vehicle. Pace was issued citations for failure to maintain control and failure to use a safety belt.
