Summer may be over, but work still continues on road construction projects in Kalona.

Traffic is still restricted to one lane at the intersection of Highway 1 and 22 as the Iowa Department of Transportation is reconstructing the intersection, removing the raised stop sign islands and replacing them with painted stop sign areas. The intersection will still be a four-way stop upon completion. The estimated cost of the project is $1,652,000 and the anticipated completion date is late October. As that project is wrapping up, work continues east of the intersection with the bridge replacement over a drainage ditch on Highway 22 near JW’s Foods. The estimated cost of the project is $1,445,000 with completion anticipated for early December.
