Whether you shriek in delight at scary sights or enjoy a tamer Halloween experience, English River Outfitters will provide a spooky fun time at their Haunted Trail fundraiser this weekend.

English River Outfitters founder Chuck Geertz explains the purpose of this event, “The Haunted Trail is kind of a two-fold type of a thing. Number one it’s a community awareness type thing, so that the community knows what we’re doing. And number two, it’s kind of a fundraiser for us to help fund our veterans’ programs and events.”

English River Outfitters provides veterans with an outdoor experience where veterans can fish, hunt, and hike in the woodlands of their facilities located south of Washington. Geertz says about 80% of the Haunted Trail’s volunteers are veterans, and there will be hot chocolate, hot dogs, storytelling and candy for the kids. Geertz emphasizes this Haunted Trail is an event for all ages, “If we’ve got kids that come in that don’t want to be scared, then we give them little bracelets to put around their wrists. And so when they’re going through the trails and they just hold their wrist up, then the volunteers know to taper back their scare tactics a bit.”

The HERO Haunted Trail will be on Friday October 27 and Saturday October 28 from dusk until 10 p.m. at English River Outfitters, on the southeast corner of Sockum Ridge Park. Cost is $5 per person.
