The Winfield-Mt. Union volleyball team had a strong finish to the 2017 season and made it to the semifinal regional round. The success was in part by some of the most talented freshmen in the state.

Mixed in with a loaded senior class, a trio of freshmen made their mark in a conference that they will be dominating for years to come. Jenna Buffington led the team in kills with 231 that was fifth in the Southeast Iowa Super Conference north division and the most by any freshmen in class 1A. With Buffington taking care of the offense, Kyndal Townsley made her mark defensively with 344 digs on the year that was fifth in the division and the most of any freshman in the state. Buffington was second on the team in digs with 233 and another freshman Jami Wilkerson was third with 195. The three players also led the team in aces with 100 combined.

The trio will see their role expand next year as the Wolves lose seven players to graduation.
