The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk football team scored their second district win of the season Friday at Dwight G. Sattler Field in Wellman, knocking off Northeast Goose Lake 28-6.

In a game heard on KCII, the Hawks got out to a fast start finding the end zone on their first two possessions with a pair of Justin Schwartz touchdown runs, one from eight yards out the other from nine, giving Mid-Prairie a 14-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. Staked to the early advantage the Mid-Prairie defense made life miserable for Nate Lange and the Rebel offense. Northeast entered the game as the second best passing team in the entire state but the Mid-Prairie pressure, led by Jason Tew and his game high five sacks the Hawks held the Rebels to 243 yards and just 45 on the ground. Mid-Prairie would take their 14-0 lead into the locker room.

The Golden Hawks added to it with their first possession of the second half, keyed by a great return from Terrhyn Jacoby, Mid-Prairie started at the Northeast 23 and five plays later Rex Peck scored his first varsity touchdown on a three yard run to make it 21-0. The Mid-Prairie defense stayed locked in with Grant Boyse picking off his first varsity pass to close down a Rebel drive. Mid-Prairie would add its final insurance touchdown on a Jacoby jet sweep in the fourth quarter to stretch the lead to 28-0. Northeast scored a touchdown on the game’s final play as Lange found Braeden Hoyer in the corner of the end zone as time expired.
