Golden Hawks Open River Valley Tourney Tuesday

The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk volleyball team travels to Tipton tonight for the opening round of the River Valley Conference tournament.

Mid-Prairie will play three pool play matches on the night taking on Tipton, Northeast Goose Lake and Bellevue. The Golden Hawks come into action with a 4-19 overall record. Last time on the floor they were swept in five matches at the Clear Creek Amana tournament Saturday. On the season the Golden Hawks are led by Maya Hall with 68 kills. Caitlyn Riggan has the club lead with 219 assists. Alison Yoder is best on the team and sixth in the River Valley Conference with 317 digs.

Tipton comes into the night 27-5 on the season, ranked No. 8 in the state in class 3A in the latest poll from the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. In their last match Thursday they were a four set winner over West Branch. On the season the Tigers are led by Sommer Daniel with 334 kills, third best in the RVC. Amanda Smith is best on the team and seventh in the River Valley with 432 assists. Laken Hermiston leads the Tiger defense with 214 digs.

Northeast Goose Lake is 6-19 entering tonight’s action. Last time on the court they hosted a tournament Saturday, falling to Bellevue and Davenport Assumption before rebounding to beat Prince of Peace. On the season the Rebels are led by Alecca Gray with 73 kills. Kaitlyn Myers leads the team with 99 assists and McKenna Dierks leads the Rebel defense with 134 digs.

Bellevue enters tonight’s action with an overall record of 17-10. In their last action they fell to North Cedar in four sets. On the season the Comets are led by Rebecca Schroeder with 287 kills, sixth in the River Valley Conference. Schroeder also has the team lead with 345 assists and Giana Michaels leads the Comet defense with 366 digs, third most in the RVC.

Mid-Prairie is a combined 0-4 against this field on the season. The winners will advance to the next round of the conference tournament Thursday at a site to be determined.
