Brennan Horak made history for the Washington cross country team on Thursday night when he qualified for state in the district meet at Central College.

The senior entered uncharted territory this century for the Demon boys’ team, as he became the first runner to qualify for state since 1999. That history did not come easy, as it was a nail biter finish for Horak to place in the top 15 and qualify for Fort Dodge next week. A huge kick at the end allowed for him to finish in 14th place with a time of 17:35 while 15th and 16th place crossed the finish line just a second later. Head Coach of the Demons Stefanie Tschantz described his accomplishment as a “huge thing for the boys’ program and I am excited for him.”
