A pair of KCII area volleyball teams will be in action against one another tonight in the class 1A regional tournament when Winfield-Mt. Union hosts Iowa Mennonite in the regional quarterfinals.

IMS enters play with a 15-13 overall record. They survived the first round of the playoffs, winning a thrilling five set match over WACO on Tuesday. On the season Iowa Mennonite is led by Suzanna Yoder with 139 kills, 10th most in the Southeast Iowa Superconference. Yoder also has the team lead, and is second in the Superconference with 329 digs. The IMS defense as a team is second in the Superconference with more than 1,200 digs on the season. Sami Miller, this week’s KCII Hedge Above Lawncare Athlete of the Week, leads IMS and is sixth in the Superconference with 241 assists on the season.

Winfield-Mt. Union enters tonight’s action with an overall record of 13-18 on the season. The Wolves got through round one with a four set win over the Keota Eagles Tuesday. On the season the Wolves are led by Jenna Buffington and Lexee Hartsock each with 206 kills, sixth most in the Southeast Iowa Superconference. Lauren Jamison is third in the Superconference with 399 assists.

These two teams met twice during the regular season with IMS winning both matchups. The winner of tonight’s match advances to the regional semifinals Thursday in Victor to take on the winner of No. 14 HLV and English Valleys. Action begins tonight at 7p.m. at Winfield-Mt. Union High School.
