A school in San Juan, Puerto Rico doesn’t know when they’ll be in session after Hurricane Maria caused damage on the island and its U.S. citizens.

Academia Menonita Betania is a sister school of Iowa Mennonite School. Director of Advancement Jeremy Ours says IMS has seen the effects of Maria on San Juan, “We were sent pictures of campus, of some of these buildings, classrooms with desks pushed up against the wall and no roof and just the devastation that they’ve experienced on their campus.”

IMS is raising funds for the Puerto Rico school. IMS hung pictures of the affected Puerto Rico campus at Hillcrest Union, and the volleyball team collected an offering from spectators at their game Tuesday night. The Compassion Club is hosting “Comfy Clothes for Compassion”, gathering donations from students who want to dress more casually during the school day this week. Ours says IMS hopes to raise at least $1,000 for the Puerto Rico school, which IMS students have visited in the past.
