Drought conditions have lessened in severity in Iowa and extreme drought is no longer found in the state.

According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, the amount of Iowa abnormally dry has dropped from 56.5% with 3.2% in extreme drought last week, to 41.2% abnormally dry this week. This is the first report since August 8th that none of Iowa is in extreme drought. Currently, almost two percent is in severe drought and about 24% is in moderate drought. Most of Washington County is abnormally dry with the far northwest corner in moderate drought.
