The City of Kalona is right on track with the community center project.

Representatives of project manager Carl A. Nelson gave an update on the center’s progress to the city council at their recent meeting. City Administrator Ryan Schlabaugh says they are over 17% finished with the project, on track for a July or August 2018 completion. The council selected the colors of the exterior steel trim, which are referred to as “light stone” and “gray charcoal.” Last week, contractors finished a bulk of underground work such as relocating fire hydrants, and water and sewer hookup. They are also working on pouring foundation and are expected to work on the block firewall that will be in between City Hall and the new building, which should take a couple weeks for completion.
