Southeast Iowa was well represented in Pella on Thursday night for cross country districts as Mid-Prairie and Washington were in attendance.

For Mid-Prairie it was the second straight year where both the boys and girls won the district meet and will both run as a team at state next week. The girls dominated the competition winning the 2A meet title with 25 points. Williamsburg placed second with 73 points. Six Mid-Prairie runners qualified for state as individuals led by defending state champion Anna Hostetler who placed first with a time of 18:42. Sister Marie was just six seconds behind her placing second. Other Golden Hawk qualifiers were Ana Fleming in third, Moriah Brace in ninth, Abbagail Evans in 10th, and Kate Cavanagh was 13th.

The Mid-Prairie boys took home the title with 23 points while second place Des Moines Christian had 65. The Golden Hawks had five individual qualifiers led by meet champion Floyd Evans with a time of 17:02. Peyton Miller was third, Zach Pettit fifth, Quinn Schmidt was sixth, and Marshal Teets was eighth.

The Washington boys placed 10th in class 3A out of 13 teams with a score of 241 points. Dallas Center Grimes took home the title with 34 points. The big story for the Demons is Brennan Horak who placed 14th with a time of 17:35 to become the first Demon boys’ runner to qualify for state in 18 years. Other finishers for Washington were Evan Horak 29th, Jacob Van Osdol 53rd, Matthew Collett 69th, and Blake Hartzler 76th.

The Demon girls placed eighth with 201 points and Pella won the title with 46. Brooke Stout led the Demons in 29th with a time of 22:14. Molly Sparks was 34th, Ashley Telleen 38th, Meredith Raber 48th, and and Peyton Cuddeback 52nd.
