A Fairfield man was taken by helicopter to the University of Iowa Hospital Thursday after his motorcycle was hit by a car.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, at 5:37 p.m. a Buick Lucerne driven by 27-year-old Brittany Crawford of Fairfield was eastbound on West Grimes Avenue and a motorcycle operated by 51-year-old Darrick Cecchini of Fairfield was northbound on 4th Street, when the car pulled out from a stop sign into the path of the motorcycle. The motorcycle hit the front corner of the Buick. Cecchini was ejected from the motorcycle, landing on the sidewalk. The Buick then veered northeast and hit the side of the building at 401 North 4th Street. Cecchini was taken by air to the hospital. The crash remains under investigation.
