The quest for a long postseason run for the Sigourney volleyball team fell short Monday when they lost to Pekin in the second round of regionals.

The Panthers defended their home court winning in straight sets with scores of 25-17, 25-20, and 25-16. Pekin’s Haley Gambell was a big reason for the Panthers’ success racking up a team-high 11 kills on the day. A tall front row of 6’2 and 5’11 defenders made it hard on the Sigourney hitters as Pekin managed 14 blocks. Brooke Waechter led the Savages with six kills and Leah Carter had 20 assists. Defensively Sydney Striegel had nine digs while Waechter and Makenna Hammes each had three blocks.

With the win Pekin moves on in the playoffs with a 22-15 record as Sigourney finishes the year 11-17. The Savages lose Carter, Waechter, Striegel, Macie Leonard, and Caleigh Dale to graduation.
