The Sigourney boys’ and girls’ cross country teams competed in the South Iowa Cedar League conference meet Thursday in Colfax.

The Sigourney boys’ came up just short of capturing their third straight conference title taking second place with 52 points. Belle Plaine dethroned the champs with 46 points. Mason Moore put together an impressive race, finishing in third place with a time of 18:37. Tristan Bell also cracked the top five placing fifth and Paul Montgomery was seventh. Other finishers were Dawson Webster 22nd, Mason Dye 24th, Jake Ives 28th, and Trace Bell 38th.

Keota did not receive a team score but Turner Klein placed ninth with a time of 19:12. Jayden Lawson was the other Eagle runner placing 32nd.

For the girls, Sigourney placed fifth with 115 points while Colfax-Mingo took home the title with 50 points. Summer Barthelman led the way in 13th with a time of 24:29. Lainey Graff was 25th, Megan Stuhr 32nd, Autum Barthelman 35th, Hannah Lucas 36th, and Cameron Thompson 39th.

Keota’s Laurie Amos finished 31st with a time of 26:39.

These teams will next be in action Thursday at Pekin for the state-qualifying meet.
