As harvest progresses, over 1.3 million Iowans are still facing drought conditions.

According to the U.S. Drought Monitor, 56.52% of Iowa is abnormally dry, 34.72% is in moderate drought, 8.7% is in severe drought, and 3.2% is in extreme drought. Conditions worsened in some southeast Iowa counties from last week to this week. Keokuk and Jefferson Counties now have areas of severe drought. Most of Washington County is abnormally dry, with the northwest corner in moderate drought. The area of extreme drought stretches across nine counties from Mahaska County southwest to Union County.
