Soybeans are nearly a week behind the five-year average in Iowa for the harvest, following recent wet conditions.

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s weekly report, conditions last week only allowed about two and a half days suitable for fieldwork. In southeast Iowa, 86% of soybeans are dropping leaves and the five-year average is 88%. Locally, 30% of soybeans have been harvested while the five-year average is 45%. Across the state, soybeans are rated at 11% excellent, 51% good, 26% fair, and 12% poor to very poor.
