Despite drought conditions in the southeast part of the state bringing color change to area vegetation earlier than expected, fall colors are still showing around the KCII listening area.

According to the latest report from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources White Ash trees are beginning to show some purple. Green Ash, Hickory, Cottonwood, Walnut and Elm are also showing yellowish brown colors and dropping leaves. Maple trees, especially in urban areas are showing red, orange, yellow and dropping leaves. Sumac and poison ivy are brandishing bright red colors. The Iowa DNR has listed this week as the peak week to view fall colors in southeast Iowa.
