The two-story white house at 302 West Main Street across from the courthouse in Washington will be demolished.

The property was recently purchased by Washington County and at a meeting Tuesday the board of supervisors voted unanimously to tear it down. Supervisor Bob Yoder said, “If we get the building knocked down this fall, and get that hole filled up and let it settle over the winter, would be ideal if we’re going to make a parking lot out of it.”

Washington County Auditor Dan Widmer said there will need asbestos removed from the structure before the demolition. The quote for the asbestos abatement is $8,970. The supervisors directed Widmer to get additional quotes for demolition of the building to make it cost-effective. The City of Washington requires a demolition permit, which includes the proper disconnection of utilities. The supervisors want to have the building gone by December 1st.
