The City of Washington is one step closer to having a sidewalk along East Washington Street and Highway 92, on the east side of town extend to Wiley Avenue.

At Tuesday’s meeting, the city council approved a surveying and conceptual design proposal from Garden & Associates. City Administrator Brent Hinson explained what the scope of work includes, “Basically this phase is surveying the highway right of way, getting all of the information that we need to determine where the sidewalk can be places, or could be places, looking at both the north and south sides, just kind of understand what that would look like, what the design would look like, what the cost would be, what the projected cost would be of that. So then the hope is of course for that to give us information, so then during the budget process we can discuss that, funding that project, and potentially doing that in the next fiscal year.”

The total cost for the survey work is $13,500, with a $12,000 to $14,000 estimate if the project moves to design to prepare plans and specifications for bidding.
