Domestic violence includes physical, sexual, and psychological abuse by one intimate partner against another and October is a month to increase awareness and education.

The Washington County Domestic Violence Coalition is hosting events throughout the month to help those who are escaping domestic violence and to educate the community. Brad Koenig with the Domestic Violence Intervention Program says on October 13th they’re having a shop for safety event at the Washington Walmart, “It helps a lot when we can provide a couple sacks full of laundry soap and all the household things like that, because that’s money that they can save to put towards food, or rent, or utilities.”

Koenig shares, Vicki Crompton, the mother of 15-year-old Jennifer Crompton who was killed in Iowa by an 18-year-old ex-boyfriend, will be the keynote speaker at the coalition’s educational symposium this month. The symposium is being held at the Washington Public Library and is open to service providers and the general public, click here to visit the registration website.
