The Wellman-Scofield Library got the Wellman City Council’s approval to expand into the unused former senior dining center in the city owned building.

Library Director Carol Wilkins says it feels wonderful to have the opportunity to grow, “It will almost double the space we have now. It’s much needed for our children’s programming, it’s like a dream come true. We were running out of space. We don’t have room for new books, we don’t have room for storage. We just need the space.”

Wilkins says the library may use the addition to expand the children’s area, and create small conference rooms, for which she says the public has been vocal on their desire. Wilkins says the library board will discuss next steps in the expansion project at their meeting November 13.
