The Wellman-Scofield Library is looking to double their size with an expansion in the Wellman City Hall building.

The Wellman City Council held a recent town hall meeting to get the community’s input on how the space at the east end of City Hall should be used. The facility was formerly used by Mid-Prairie for their Alternative Learning Center, and for senior dining prior to that. Wellman-Scofield Library Director Carol Wilkins presented to the council, “We’ve been dreaming of an expansion, mostly because we are at capacity right now. We have been providing more programs, our summer reading program. We’ve often had to take our programs somewhere else because we can’t accommodate the number of kids who come to our program.”

Wilkins would like to use the east facility to expand the children’s section, add small conference rooms, or create a lab for all the computers in the library, which is in the City Hall building. City Administrator Kelly Litwiller says the council will take action on what to do with the vacant space at their October 16 meeting.
