The Winfield-Mt. Union volleyball team travels to Victor tonight to battle HLV in the class 1A regional semifinal round of the playoffs.

The Wolves enter action with a 14-18 overall record. On their playoff run they eliminated Keota in four sets in the first round and knocked out Iowa Mennonite School in the regional quarterfinals with a three set sweep. On the season the Wolves are led by Jenna Buffington with 222 kills, fifth most in the Southeast Iowa Superconference. Lauren Jamison has the team lead and is third in the Superconference with 422 assists. Kyndal Townsley leads the Wolves defensively with 333 digs, fifth most in the Superconference.

HLV enters tonight’s match with an overall record of 15-7. The Warriorettes are ranked No. 14 in class 1A in the final poll for the season released by the Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union. In their last match, they swept English Valleys Monday night in the regional quarterfinals. On the season HLV is led by Macie Boots with 229 kills, sixth best in the South Iowa Cedar League. Haley Coats leads the Warriorettes with 297 assists, 10th most in the SICL. Shary Hinshaw leads the Warriorette defense with 298 digs, fourth most in the SICL.

The winner of tonight’s match will be just one step away from the state tournament in Cedar Rapids, advancing to the regional final to be played Tuesday in Williamsburg against the winner of No. 2 Springville and Marquette Catholic. Action begins tonight at 7p.m. at HLV High School in Victor.
