Washington County’s unemployment rate fell from August to September.

According to Iowa Workforce Development, in August 400 people were unemployed or 3%, while in September 300 people were unemployed which equates to 2.6% in Washington County. According to Washington County Economic Development Group Director Ed Raber 91 people are drawing unemployment benefits and the total laborforce has expanded to over 12,800 people. All of Washington’s contiguous counties also saw drops in the unemployment rate in September. The highest September unemployment rate in Iowa was 5.6% in Lee County while the lowest was 1.7% in Lyon County and in Sioux County.
