The Iowa Mennonite School girls basketball team opened their season Tuesday night, hosting perennial power Mediapolis.

The Bullettes got the win in Kalona 86-48. Mediapolis opened the game on an 11-3 run and finished the first quarter scoring 10 straight to take a 26-7 lead after the first eight minutes. MEPO continued to control the game, outscoring IMS 22-15 in the second quarter to take a 25 point lead into the locker room at 47-22.

The second half was more of the same as the Mediapolis pressure continued to cause IMS problems, forcing 36 turnovers on the night. When IMS was able to break the pressure they were able to get things going offensively as Suzanna Yoder and Alyssa Hershberger combined for 21 second half points to lead the way. The Bullettes enacted the continuous clock with six minutes left in the contest, reaching the 35 point plateau with their lead.

Mediapolis was led by Mackenzie Rogers, the state’s leading scorer from a year ago put up 27 points. IMS was led by Yoder’s 26, Hershberger finished with 13. IMS is now 0-1 on the year and will next be in action Tuesday when they take on Lone Tree.
