A pond for fishing, four baseball diamonds, an ADA compliant walking trail, three soccer fields, an outdoor fitness space, 400 parking spaces, and a concession stand with restrooms was presented as the conceptual design for Washington’s Wellness Park Monday.

At a public meeting Monday evening, it was explained that the park committee discussed various options, visited six other cities’ parks and spoke with their staff who maintain them.

Shawn O’Shea with MSA Professional Services explained the timeline of the project, “We’re looking at trying to do bid opening in April and construction in May for one phase. So this is going to be a phased project because it is a large site and it has a lot to it, a lot of amenities that’s going to be a big improvement in that part of the community. So put that out there, it is going to be a phased approach, but for that first phase we’re hoping to get that out and complete by this time next year.” Due to the lay of the land of the site, grading will need to be done to install all of the features.

Regarding cost, O’Shea said it will depend on the final design, and then the cost for each phase will depend on the features that are done in each phase.
