Area officials will be discussing the next steps in upgrading Washington County’s emergency communications equipment in a meeting Wednesday.

The E911 Services and Communications boards are holding a joint meeting. A previous estimate from a consultant for new equipment is $10.4 million, including the cost of new radio towers. Currently, the coverage for emergency personnel radios is at about 39% indoors, and the upgrade would get that up to the standard of around 95%. The Washington County Board of Supervisors approved a grant application to the Washington County Riverboat Foundation to help fund the work. There will also be a text to 911 update. The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
