Whether it’s a snow emergency or a boil order in town, citizens of Kalona can register for a free service to get updates from city officials.

City Administrator Ryan Schlabaugh updated the city council at their recent meeting, that the emergency notification system is up and running. Schlabaugh explains how Kalona residents can sign up, “Through our website they can go on and there’s a link on the main page and they can go and put their address in, email information and phone number. And that’ll allow them during emergencies, whether it’s boil order, snow emergency, any pertinent information will go out to the public immediately. They can get text email and voicemail notification.”

The system is being implemented through a partnership with Kalona Cooperative Telephone Company. As of November 6 approximately 60 residents have registered.
