Lace up your roller skates, bust out the glitter, and prepare to travel back to the 1980s this weekend as the Highland Drama Department performs “Xanadu Jr.”

This musical, based on the 1980 cult classic film, follows the journey of Greek muse Kira, who descends from the heavens of Mt. Olympus to Venice Beach, California. There she is on a quest to inspire struggling artist Sonny to achieve the greatest artistic creation of all time – the first roller disco. But when Kira falls into a forbidden love with the mortal Sonny, her jealous sisters take advantage of the situation, and chaos ensues. Zoe Mahler and Sam Smith are playing the lead roles in this G-rated disco-filled romantic comedy. “Xanadu” will be performed Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Highland High School gym. Tickets are $8 for adults, $5 for students, $3 for senior citizens, and free for veterans.
