Three Highland educators were nominated for a teaching award from the Iowa Children’s Museum.

Highland Elementary teachers Brenda Bean, Teresa Greiner, and Rebeca Yoder were nominated for the Robert E. Yager 2017 Active Learning Award. The award is presented to local educators who have made a significant contribution to student-centered active learning. Nominations were submitted by parents, educators, administrators, students, and community members. The award states that exemplary active teaching places emphasis on understanding and responding to an individual student’s interests and strengths, selectively adapting curriculum to students’ needs, and sharing responsibility for learning with students. This year the award was presented to four educators from North Liberty, Iowa City, Coralville, and the Grant Wood Area Education Agency.
