The Iowa Mennonite School boys’ and girls’ basketball teams welcome Lone Tree tonight for early Southeast Iowa Super Conference positioning.

For the girls, IMS will look to bounce back from an opening season loss to Mediapolis last week. A bright spot for Iowa Mennonite was junior Suzanna Yoder, cashing in on 26 of the team’s 48 points. She connected on three of her nine shots from behind the arc and managed five boards. Alyssa Hershberger was the other IMS player in double figures with 13 points and eight rebounds. In a pair of games Madie Jacque has paced the Lions with 11 points combined on four of 10 shooting. Riley Warson has crashed the boards with 16 rebounds.

On the boys’ side, two teams with rich history are both coming off of 17 win seasons. Iowa Mennonite got their first look at the season Friday when they fell to West Branch in the annual Hall of Pride scrimmage. Scoring was well distributed with Cole Ours leading the way with nine points, Reggie Borntrager had eight, and Mitchell Schmieder had seven. Lone Tree lost some key players from a year ago but bring back third leading scorer Brock Smith. The senior averaged eight points and five boards a year ago.

The girls’ game gets started at 6 p.m. with the boys to follow at Hillcrest Union in rural Kalona. Tune into 106.1 FM to listen to the broadcast starting at 5:30 p.m. for the Washington HyVee pregame show.
