Drivers in Washington County can expect a new road project on Highway 22 in 2018.
According to the Iowa Department of Transportation, crews will be performing micro-surfacing and pavement patching along 6.5 miles of Highway 22 from Wellman to Highway 1 in Kalona. Work will also be done on granular shoulders with no reduction in lane width expected. Iowa DOT says through traffic will be maintained during the entirety of the project, and there will be alternating lane closures with no detour. Total cost of the project is $750,000 and a starting date has yet to be finalized with Fort Dodge Asphalt Co. Work will begin in the spring of 2018. The project is expected to last approximately a month and a half.
