In 2015, law was signed in Iowa increasing the gasoline tax by 10 cents for consumers and those funds have since helped with multiple projects in Washington County.

Since it was enacted, according to the Legislative Services Agency, revenue from motor fuel excise taxes has increased by an estimated $515 million. The funds are used on critical road and bridge projects. In Washington County, three projects on county highways have benefited from these funds. It has also had an impact on Iowa’s primary highways, and one project is expected to begin next year in Washington and Louisa Counties. See the map below for the scheduled primary highway projects.
