The City of Keota informed the public on the status of their wastewater improvements project at their recent council meeting.

This project is funded in part by a $300,000 Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) and approximately $2.5 million in local funds using the Clean Water State Revolving Fund. The original estimated cost of the project was $2,727,600. Major modifications are being made to the existing wastewater treatment lagoon system, adding an ultraviolet disinfection system, and piping, structures, electrical, and site work. Grant administrator from the Area 15 Regional Planning Commission Bradley Grefe reports the benefit to low-to-moderate income residents is an estimated 51.5% based on a local income survey conducted in April 2013, and the project benefits all residents regardless of income. A contract bid of $2,905,037.19 was awarded to Leander Construction, with one change order approved increasing the contract price by $10,644.67. Leander Construction began work in May, and a substantial completion of the project is estimated to be in December, with full completion expected for June 2018.
