The Lone Tree boys’ and girls’ basketball teams travel to Keota tonight for an area showdown.

For the girls’, both teams are looking for their first win of the year. The Eagles fell in their first contest last week against Highland. The Eagles have plenty of experience from a year ago led by Addison Sprouse, averaging eight points and six boards in her sophomore campaign. Brianna Duwa will look to clean up the boards averaging five last season. The Lions fell in their two contests against Danville and Winfield-Mt. Union. Riley Warson has been a bright spot for the Lions with a combined 11 points and 16 boards in the two contests.

It is the season opener for the boys’ side, as both teams are coming off of 17 win seasons. Expect a dandy of a game, as last year it went down to the wire with the Lions edging the Eagles 76-74. After losing their top two scorers, Brock Smith will look to fill the void for the Lions averaging eight points and five boards last season. The Eagles lost some key players to graduation as well, but return Hunter Wilson, averaging 12 points per game.

The girls’ matchup gets started at 6 p.m. tonight at Keota High School with the boys to follow.
