The Mid-Prairie Golden Hawk wrestling team opens the conference season tonight with a trip to Monticello for a quadrangular meet.

The Golden Hawks will see Tipton, Northeast Goose Lake and the home standing Panthers tonight. Mid-Prairie is already in the middle of a busy week, having opened the season with a 2-1 showing at Wapello on Tuesday. The Golden Hawks knocked off the Indians and English Valleys while falling to Eddyville-Blakesburg in their season opener.

Monticello was 6-12 a season ago. The Panthers sent Chase Luensmen to the state tournament where he placed fifth as a sophomore last season. Monticello enters this year with a pair of ranked wrestlers with Chase Luensmen sixth in 2A at 132lbs and Kain Luensmen sixth at 113lbs. Mid-Prairie fell to the Panthers in last year’s dual season by a 41-39 score.

Northeast Goose Lake was 5-11 last season. The Rebels did not advance anyone to the state tournament and do not have any ranked wrestlers on their roster entering this season. Mid-Prairie beat the Rebels 48-22 during last year’s dual season.

The Tipton Tigers were 14-9 in last year’s dual season. The Tigers sent junior Ben Emrich to the state tournament at 120lbs. The Tigers have no ranked wrestlers in their lineup entering this season. Mid-Prairie beat the Tigers 60-24 during last year’s dual season.

Action begins tonight at 6.p.m. at Monticello High School.
