At the 14th public take back of unwanted, expired, or unused prescription drugs in Washington over 30 pounds was turned in.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office, Washington Police Department, and the Drug Enforcement Administration held the free and anonymous event Saturday at the United Presbyterian Church. The goal is to prevent pill abuse and get potentially dangerous medications out of homes. Sheriff Jared Schneider tells KCII News, they took in 21.9 pounds of pills and 9.2 pounds of liquid. The sheriff’s office also has a free dropbox where residents can drop of any unwanted medication throughout the year. Since the drop box was installed in February, they’ve taken in approximately 94 pounds.
