Hedge Above Lawncare Athlete of the Week Brock Smith

This week’s Hedge Above Lawncare Athlete of the Week is Lone Tree’s Brock Smith. The senior tore it up on the gridiron this past fall and was recently named to the INA All-State first team. Congratulations Brock!

Description: The Washington Public Library is sponsoring the mitten tree. Come donate new mittens, gloves, hats, scarves, and socks to the mitten tree at the library by Friday December 15. They will also take unexpired, non-perishables for the food pantry. All items will be given to local children and adults in need this holiday season.

Description: Volunteers are needed at the annual packing of the Lord’s Cupboard of Jefferson County holiday meal boxes on Thursday December 14. Volunteers should arrive at the Nazarene Center by 5:30 p.m. wearing comfortable shoes and a jacket. Description: The annual ACORN holiday potluck at the Henry County Conservation Department will be December 15 at 10 a.m. in the classroom of the Oakland Mills Nature Center. The film “An Inconvenient Truth” will be shown first followed by lunch in the classroom. This is a free program and open to anyone over 18 years old. Description: Come to the Oakland Mills Nature Center on Thursday December 7 at 7 p.m. for a stroll through the woods with the Henry County Conservation Department’s naturalists. If inclement weather, there will be a constellation program in the environmental education classroom instead. Hot chocolate will be available after the hike. Lord’s Cupboard Holiday Meal Boxes

Title: Lord\’s Cupboard Holiday Meal Boxes
Description: The Lord’s Cupboard of Jefferson County will distribute hundreds of holiday meal boxes to low-income households in Jefferson County. Between now and December 6 the Jefferson County community is invited to donate the nonperishable items still needed for the 500 boxes. Those wishing to sponsor a family’s holiday meal box for $28 can donate in person, by mail or online at lordscupboard.org.

Symphony Concert

Description: The Southeast Iowa Symphony Chamber Orchestra will be performing at the Saints Peter and Paul Church in Harper on Sunday December 3 at 2 p.m. The orchestra will be performing with the Mt. Pleasant Chorale and Iowa Wesleyan University Concert Choir, singing “Gloria” by Vivaldi. There is a freewill offering for this concert with a reception to follow.

Description: There will be a sports equipment exchange program on Saturday December 2 from 9-11 a.m. at the Kalona Chamber of Commerce. The YMCA will be accepting used sports equipment and clothing donations and making them available to those in need. Items include bats, gloves, pants, shirts, cleats, shoes, and bags. Warm up with hot cocoa, coffee, and donuts and make a donation for a chance to win a $100 Scheels gift card.
