Soon red kettles will be seen and bells will be heard as you enter area stores as a fundraiser with the Salvation Army.

Deb McCreedy who helps organize the Salvation Army Bell Ringing Campaign in Washington shares why volunteers take part, “We ring the bells so we can make some money for Washington County residents who find themselves in need throughout the year. It’s been going on in our county for about 10 years, but it’s just been the six or so years it’s really taken off.” Last year, they raised $15,800 and the goal is $20,000 this year. McCreedy shares 70% of the funds are used in Washington, “The money is used for residents of Washington County. It might be rent money, utility monies, car repairs, medical issues, temporary lodging, prescriptions that maybe they couldn’t refill because of a shortage that month.”

Volunteers can sign up by contacting McCreedy (319)461-6783 or Jim Stiles (319)653-3367, or through a local church or service group.
