Since the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission (IRGC) rejected the gambling proposals from Cedar Rapids last week, the Riverside Casino & Golf Resort is shifting its focus on the biggest renovation in its 11 year existence.

General Manager Dan Franz talks about the project, “We have a $10 million remodel in the works and we’re working through budgeting and scheduling, that type of thing. The bulk of the remodel is going to be just kind of a refresh of a lot of the different areas of the property: floors, walls, new furniture, new slot stools, new table games and stools, some remodeling of our restaurant areas.”

The IRGC approved the remodel plans in June which include moving hotel guest services to the rotunda, replacing the water feature at the center bar with a light-emitting diode (LED) display, and reworking the poker room to look more like a sports book. Franz says the casino is ordering materials for the remodel, and he expects to begin work in January with completion in June of 2018.
